Palliative Care ACT welcomes the Legislative Assembly’s cross-party support this week for a review of palliative care services in the ACT.
“It’s encouraging to see members from across the Assembly recognise how important palliative care is to Canberrans and their families,” said Palliative Care ACT CEO Paul Arztenhofer.
“Every Canberran living with a life-limiting illness deserves to be well cared for, and to spend their final stage of life where they choose, with the right support around them. Most people tell us that means at home.
“Good palliative care depends on clinical services and community support working together. We look forward to contributing to the review and working with the government, the Assembly and our sector partners to make sure the system meets the needs of Canberrans now and into the future.”
Palliative Care ACT supports people with a life-limiting illness, their families and carers through its volunteer program, community education and advocacy, and Leo’s Place, its respite home.
Earlier this year the ACT Government committed funding for Leo’s Place through to 2030, including an expansion to six beds when the new purpose-built home in Garran opens in late 2027.
Mr Arztenhofer also reassured the community that Canberra’s palliative care services, including Clare Holland House and Leo’s Place, continue to operate as normal.
