Small Acts of Support Make a Big Difference

Support does not always arrive in big, dramatic gestures. More often, it shows up quietly. Someone buys a ticket to an event. Someone shares a post. Someone turns up, enjoys themselves, and goes home knowing they have done something good.

At Palliative Care ACT, we see the impact of these small acts every day. They add up. They sustain our work. And they help ensure that individuals and families across our community can access compassionate care, guidance, and support during some of life’s most challenging moments.

You do not need to know anything about palliative care to support it. You do not need to make a long-term commitment. You simply need to care enough to take one small step.

What palliative care really means

Palliative care is about living as well as possible, for as long as possible. It supports people who are living with life-limiting illness, and the families and carers who walk alongside them. It is practical, emotional, and human support, offered with dignity and respect.

For many people, that support is only possible because of community involvement. Fundraising, volunteering, and shared awareness help make services stronger, more accessible, and more sustainable.

Support can be simple

There is sometimes an assumption that supporting a charity requires a major commitment of time, money, or emotional energy. In reality, it can be very simple.

You might choose to:

  • Buy a ticket to a fundraising event, turn up, enjoy yourself, and head home knowing you have helped.
  • Sign up to our newsletter to stay informed and connected.
  • Share one of our posts with your own network.
  • Donate your time as a volunteer, offering compassion instead of cash.
  • Encourage a friend or colleague to get involved in a way that suits them.

Some people come along purely for the fun and the fundraising is a bonus. Others feel drawn to give their time and skills more regularly. Both matter. Both are valued. There is no right way to support, only the way that works for you.

Why these small actions matter

Each ticket purchased helps fund programs and services.
Each newsletter read strengthens our community voice.
Each shared post helps someone else learn that support exists.
Each volunteer hour brings warmth, presence, and connection.

Individually, these actions may feel small. Together, they create a powerful ripple effect that reaches people when they need it most.

Connection builds generosity

Our events and community activities are designed to be welcoming, inclusive, and genuinely enjoyable. They are about bringing people together, creating positive experiences, and inviting generosity in a way that feels good rather than heavy.

You can show up, laugh, learn something new, meet people, and leave knowing you have contributed. No pressure. No obligation beyond that moment.

Stay connected

If this resonates with you, there are easy ways to stay involved:

  • Sign up for our newsletter to hear about upcoming events, stories from our community, and ways to support. Here
  • Visit our events page to see what is coming up and choose something that appeals to you. Here
  • Follow along on social media and share when something moves you. Facebook

Small acts of support really do make a big difference. Whether you give your time, your presence, your voice, or your ticket purchase, you are part of something meaningful.

And for that, we are deeply grateful.
