Vale Chris Osborn

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of one of our longest-serving volunteers, Chris Osborn.

Palliative Care ACT offers our deepest condolences to Chris’ family members, friends and everyone who had the honor of meeting such a wonderful, kind and caring man.

Chris began volunteering with Palliative Care ACT in March 2010, drawn by a deep appreciation for helping people. Until recently, he dedicated his time to Sunday afternoon shifts at Clare Holland House, as well as weekly home-based visits to individuals receiving palliative care.

His decision to volunteer stemmed from his previous work, where he organised funerals for Defence members who died in service, and facilitated the return of injured Defence personnel from overseas.

Chris’ contributions have had a meaningful impact on those in need in the Canberra community. For residents of Clare Holland House, his presence and assistance provided a great deal of comfort to many clients. His simple act of offering wine from the drinks trolley helped both residents and their families unwind.

During an interview with us last month, Chris told us that on a personal level, volunteering fostered his own growth.

“I have come to understand that during end of life, individuals let go of the ‘fluffy stuff’ and material concerns – we shift our focus towards the deeper value of family and friends.” – Chris

We would like to take a moment to acknowledge and thank Chris for all of the wonderful, dedicated work he has done for our clients over the past 15 years.

Rest in peace, Chris. You will be greatly missed.
